Sgt. Maj. William Pouliot holds the NCO Sword, signifying him assuming responsibility as PEO Soldier’s Sergeant Major.

FORT BELVOIR, Virginia (April 13, 2018) – PEO Soldier Brig. Gen. Anthony “Tony” Potts hosted the Assumption of Responsibility ceremony for Sgt. Maj. William
Pouliot April 13.

The AOR marks the official change of position between senior enlisted leaders of PEO Soldier. Sgt. Maj. Pouliot now serves as PEO Soldier Sergeant Major, a role that had been unfilled for the previous two years.

“The Noncommissioned Officer Corps serves as the backbone of the Army,” Brig. Gen. Potts said. “Sergeant Major Pouliot has credibility with our Soldiers. It’s great because our young workforce can reach out to him to connect with Soldier touch points.”

Sgt. Maj. Pouliot brings a wealth of experience to PEO Soldier and has served as Command Sergeant Major in two previous tours.

Assumption of Responsibility ceremony

The NCO sword passed between Master Sgt. Aaron Atchley, Brig. Gen. Potts, Sgt. Maj. Pouliot, and Master Sgt. Eric Buggeln, an act that served as the cornerstone of the AOR ceremony. It marked Sgt. Maj. Pouliot’s official assumption of the role of PEO Soldier Sergeant Major.

“I am looking forward to working with you all, a team of professionals so invested in our Soldiers,” Sgt. Maj. Pouliot said. “While I don’t have Acquisition experience, I have leadership experience that I bring as I join this team of Acquisition experts so we can continue to provide the best to our Soldiers.”

Sgt. Maj. Pouliot comes to PEO Soldier from Fort Benning, Georgia, where he was Command Sergeant Major for the 3rd Ranger Battalion and then the Fort Benning Garrison. Sgt. Maj. Pouliot’s previous assignments include 3/502nd Infantry, Ft. Campbell, Kentucky; 1/27th Infantry, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; 1/75th Ranger Regiment, Hunter Army Air Field, Georgia; Regimental Special Troops Battalion, 3/75th Ranger Regiment, 75th Regimental Headquarters; and U.S. Army Garrison, Fort Benning.
